I’m the proverbial asshat. (A word Anne Lamott coined.) I learned it from my well meaning eschatological roots. As I matured (ohhh, had it only been faster) I have drifted far from that spiritual racism that instilled the threads but still carry the residuals. Still possessing the asshat bits.
Did you get your money back for the shoes you asshat? As for me, once I bought a pair of brogues that were the right size and I thought would make me a grown up like the preacher was, who was wearing such brogues. I was embarrassed to have bought something to make me not me. I never wore them. I didn’t take them back. Seems to me that evangelical asshats are trying to be who they are not. (And Irene is not an asshat. She is always who she is.)
